Mr Ellis Downes

Mr Ellis Downes is both a Private Obstetrician and a Private Gynaecologist with a keen interest in endoscopic surgery (key hole) and urogynaecology (bladder problems). He sees many women with heavy and/or irregular periods, endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids, menopausal symptoms and urinary incontinence. He offers general gynaecological reviews including cervical smears and fertility investigations, as well as having comprehensive pregnancy care packages from conception through to delivery.

He has consulting rooms in both Central London (in the world renowned Harley Street) and North London offering my patients flexibility with appointments. Mr Downes primarily perform gynaecological operations at the King Edward VII Hospital and The Kings Oak Hospital, and deliver babies at The Portland Hospital. His patients are located both nationally and internationally.

Mr Ellis Downes has been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 1999. After 11 years as an NHS Consultant at Chase Farm Hospital in North London, he is now in full-time independent private practice. His special areas of interest include Endoscopic Surgery, Urinary Incontinence and Endometrial Ablation.

He achieved my Degree in Medicine at the University of Leicester in July 1989 and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in November 1994 and a Fellow in 2008.

Mr Downes is a member of various societies including:

  • British Menopause Society

He has many research publications and has co-edited a text book of gynaecological surgery (Advances in Gynaecological Surgery).

  • Member of the Editorial Board of Gynaecological Surgery

He was a previous Visiting Professor at Middlesex University from January 2008 to January 2017.
